Best Picture Films

As the Chicago weather gets colder and the sun sets earlier, I’m beginning to spend more evenings at home curled up on my couch. Typically that makes me feel like a lazy bum, but this winter I plan on using my lazy couch time to help work toward crossing off some items off my list.

  1. I would recommend you try and get your hands on a DVD copy of “The Best Years of Our Lives.” Directed by Oscar-winner William Wyler it is the very best of the movies that dealt with veteran returning home from WW II and the challenges they faced. A superb all-star cast, plus a great musical score and some of the best black and white cinematography you’ll ever see. Dana Andrews in the plane “graveyard” scene is a classic example of expert camera work, movie acting, and film editing. One of the all-time greats.

Make some popcorn, heat up some pizza, and kick back. It’s long, but worth it and never boring.
